and yes, you can still use your old vga monitors with the new sun ray thin clients. all you need is an dvi-to-vga adaptor (included in each sun ray 2 box).
guys, this might be a bit off-topic from my other stuff in this blog, but i just have to say that and one rock sh*t! for all who don’t know who they are: and one is a german band playing a mix of synthpop and electronic body music (ebm). i attended their concert in magdeburg’s factory on saturday the 25th november of 2006: nearly three hours full of powerful rythms, a great voice (live quite as perfect as on the cd-recordings) and helluva fun. still today i am running around with a perfectly happy grin on my face… great stuff! 
chris maestro has some nice pictures of and one on stage, although none of the current tour can be found on flickr. i guess they will be published soon as the concerts pass by.
sun gives away free dvds containing sun solaris 10 (6/06) and sun studio 11. it includes sparc and x86 versions. you better be quick as this is a time-limited offer. i like this because not all people have broadband to leech a full dvd image. decreasing the barriers for people to get in touch with solaris makes sense to me. personally i have no use for the media kit because i’ve just leeched solaris 10 x86 the week before.
craig bender blogs on reducing sun ray server load by setting some simple values in the sun ray config. this results in faster startup times. here’s a quick abstract on what the sun ray engineering guys did:
how to do this? read craigs entry on the think thin blog. after all this shows us that sun ray engineering is no black magic. 
i can’t wait to try this out….
i have to correct my statement of how to understand java’s hs_err error files: the tool posted on davids blog was not coded by him but was used sun internally before. it’s still an useful tool, i guess.

perhaps this should act as an update for my last post but i figured that this might be better placed in the fun-section. while one might think that microsoft is evil and blinkered, this photograph proves that there are sane people in redmond as well:
the guys at mozilla got this one while shipping the final release of firefox 2.0. great stuff and a noble sign of the internet explorer team. perhaps i should code a competitor application to microsoft exchange to get a cake as well? shouldn’t be that hard.

hey folks! sorry to say, i’ve been to busy to blog for the last week. so this might come a bit late, as this news is already some days old (woah, this is decades in internet time!): the official release of firefox 2.0 is available for solaris. you can find the pre-compiled packages for solaris sparc and x86 at releases.mozilla.org. the nice folks around masaki katakai provided this one again. katakai san has also blogged on how to set up a multi-user and multi-language environment for firefox on solaris. now go out and equip your solaris desktops with the brand-new firefox!
by the way there are many ways you can get involved in the development of this fine piece of code poetry. for instance i file bugs on a regular basis.
