my employer, the aperto ag located at the heart of berlin, generously sponsors my attendance at the official typo3 conference, t3con08. fortunately the conference takes place in berlin, so i will attend all the after-show parties and other social events. just leave a comment so we can make an appointment and have a beer together!

more flexible sunray kiosk mode

a short link for reminiscence reasons: check out the FLButselector package, a framework to make sun ray kiosk/cam mode more flexible, assigning per-token and per-dtu default applications.

here are the techspecs:

As of current release, you can do quite a lot by assigning applications not only to “correctly” registered tokens, but to DTUs as well - in 4 other combinations of authorization (no token, unregistered token, registered token without “piped” fields and registered token pointing to a missing program).

You can also use the “Disabled” checkmark for tokens (i.e. lost or stolen) and define the script’s default policy about unknown/missing tokens.

It has been developed and successfully used under Solaris 10 SRSS3.1 CAM and SRSS4 9/07 + patch Kiosk modes. Notes/patches welcome for other platforms.

soccer at the bodensee

on of my babies (=projects) at aperto is the so called fankurve bodensee. this site promotes one of the biggest public viewing events related to the uefa euro2008. now the colleagues at scholz&friends have produced two nice ads for it that you can see on youtube, myvideo and for a short amount of time on spiegel online.

at the moment i am helping to spread the dvds of the t3con2007 by bittorrent. all sessions of the conference are included and released unter a creative commons licence. get your copy today!

bad vista

as promised i will present a few selected fsf projects during the next days. the first in the list is badvista - it encourages you not to use microsoft vista.

what is it about?

The BadVista campaign is an advocate for the freedom of computer users, opposing adoption of Microsoft Windows Vista and promoting free (as in freedom) software alternatives. Sign the petition at Free Software Free Society and encourage non-governmental organizations you work with or support to join together in rejecting Vista.

why is it so bad? read what’s wrong with microsoft vista.

even tho it’s not related to the free software foundation, i found the article 100 Things People Are Really Saying About Windows Vista very amusing.

richard stallman in berlin

finally a new post by me: after upgrading this blog is safe again.

last week i had the pleasure to meet richard stallman in person. ccm, mnemonikk and me joined the passionate crowd in the atrium of the media centre, berlin. stallman, founder of the free software foundation (fsf), held a two-hour excourse on the importance and ethics of free software. it was quite entertaining to listen to this fervid speaker. finally richard sang the free software song. though i thoughti have a quite good understanding of open source, i did not know this one. it was great!

in the next days i will present some campaings by the fsf in detail.

usb drive deamon for sun ray environments

okay, time for more updates. as months went by, my usb mount/unmount script has been used by several sun ray admins, who have written me uplifting mails. thanks for your replies, dudes! but meanwhile daniel cifuentes came up with the “usb drive daemon” which i think is even better suited to fit your sun ray usb plugging needs. go check it out and use it in your sun ray environments!

its’ blog post is located at think thin, so please grab it there. several users have made improvements, so maybe you can pick up a solution you like or script it for yourself.
